16th of September, proposed, by Lord Kimberley, that in consequence of the diminution of the duties of Colonial Treasurer having been considerably diminished, that the office as a separate one should be abolished and the work performed by the Registrar General with an addition to his pay of £200 a year.
This suggestion of Lord Kimberley's does not seem to have been entirely carried out, inasmuch as the office of Treasurer has never been altogether abolished, it having since been combined with another office and the holder of it continuing to be a member of the Executive and Legislative Councils.
It was, however, held in conjunction with the Registrar Generalship until the late Mr. Stewart became Registrar General in 1883 when the appointment was given to the late Mr. Lister.
